Welcome to the half-timbered idyll

Wherever your gaze wanders: Colmar's old town reveals itself as a unique half-timbered jewel. One ensemble seems to be more beautiful than the other, and on top of that so colourful: sometimes pigeon blue or turquoise, sometimes sunny yellow, orange or chimney red. Everything so beautifully colourful here! And so homely!

In six centuries the pretty town houses around the gothic Martinsmünster have been built, mainly in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The perfect postcard idyll awaits visitors along the Lauch river in the Krutenau district, which the locals here proudly call Petite Venise, Little Venice. The fishing shore, Quai de la Poissonerie, is at the top of the hit list of photo motifs. The tanner's quarter is also one of the pleasant duty stations, as is the Maison des Têtes, whose façade is decorated with 100 heads, the Maison Pfister with its striking bay window or the Koifhus, a former customs station. And, and, and...

As if all this wasn't enough, Colmar can also boast world-famous works of art. One of them is the Isenheim Altar by Matthias Grünewald, which is exhibited in the Unterlinden Museum worth seeing, or Martin Schongauer's painting Madonna in the Rosenhag, which can be seen in the Dominican Church. And then there are the countless small speciality shops that make the heart of every gourmet beat faster, or the historic market hall.

While in many other tourist hotspots it is often relatively difficult to park your motorhome in the centre, Colmar shows a heart for motorhomers. At the Parking Camping-Cars in the Rue Henry Wilhelm, where there are 10 designated parking spaces, you are very close to the old town. The best place to stay overnight, however, is the parking lot in Port de Plaisance. In the well-equipped marina on the outskirts of the town there is room for 50 mobile homes. Mobile homes are also welcome at the restaurant of the Domaine du Wolfloch.
